Labelling

Accurate and informative labelling of garments is an ethical responsibility of the manufacturer: it is clear that it is a prime objective to enable environmentally sound outcomes, and the extension of life of the garments. This is a subject to which Swedish multinational retailer H&M has paid attention apropos of Ginetex (the International Association of Textile Care Labeling) who has developed a series of label instructions entitled clevercare™ for customers to advise them on how to care for their garments in a more environmentally aware manner:

• Don’t wash your clothes too often

• Lower the temperature when machine washing.

• Think of reducing the amount you tumble dry.

• Ironing only when necessary

• Use Dry Clean only when necessary

(Gintex, 2015)
